Add an Extra Layer of Comfort with Cotton Jersey Gloves
Regardless of what type of outdoor work or recreational activity you participate in, warm hands in cool weather make it much more enjoyable. Cotton jersey gloves are the easy, inexpensive way to add an extra layer of warmth and comfort to your regular work or sporting gloves.
The best jersey gloves are made out of soft, fleecy cotton.
They’re not too thick to fit comfortably inside sturdier outer wear gloves. Although they may be worn on their own, most types of jersey gloves are designed to be worn as liners.
Brown cotton jersey gloves are the most common type you’ll come across, and they will serve just fine as a liner for more durable gloves. Even basic cotton gloves such as these do come in different styles. If warmth is a big priority, consider choosing a style that’s knitted at the wrist to help protect against cold.
Cotton gloves aren’t designed to serve as sturdy work gloves, although they may be used as such in some cases. If you’re doing light yard work or moving some items around in the garage on a chilly day, these gloves will keep your hands warm. They’re not going to provide protection against impact, however. To protect against abrasions, fatigue or splinters, choose a sturdier pair of work gloves.
You can boost the protection your hands receive from jersey gloves somewhat by opting to wear two pairs at once, especially in cold conditions. Yet an outer layer is still going to be essential for protection if you’re working with anything sharp, oily or otherwise potentially dangerous.
Jersey gloves are very inexpensive, and they’re not meant to last forever. If last year’s pair has a hole in one finger or a tear at the thumb crease, it’s time to get a new pair. Holes and tears will compromise the gloves’ ability to protect your hands against the cold. The point of glove liners is warmth and comfort, so don’t settle for a pair of worn out cotton gloves that can’t do the job.
The fact that they’re so affordable and comfortable makes brown cotton jersey gloves an easy winter wear item you can rely on. Stick a pair in the glove box of every vehicle you own, have a pair on hand in the basement and definitely keep some with your hunting or other outdoor sports gear. Whenever you need extra warmth regular outer shell gloves can’t provide, you’ll have a pair of fleecy cotton jersey gloves at hand.
